A fresh tea harvested in early spring 2020 from Shan Lin Xi 杉林溪, Nantou County, Taiwan.

Shan Lin Xi is a mountainous region located in the middle part of Taiwan and is famous for producing premium Oolong tea.

Taiwan produces world-class high mountain Oolong tea. Each tea from this region its own unique taste due to differing growing and climatic conditions within the same region. In Chinese we say that the tea is affected by Shan Chi (山氣), or the breath of the mountain or, to use a more European phrase, “Terroir”.

Shan Lin Xi is 1,800 meters above sea level with an average temperature of 20°C. The region’s unique geographical conditions ensures the mountain receives a lot of sunlight and constant mist. As with all of the high mountain teas, its has special qualities that have been attributed to this almost continuous mist.

Our tea collection:

  • Oolong Spring Green from Shan Lin Xi has distinctive clean taste and body with lingering flavour, and a crisp fresh aroma. Brewed tea is in clear light green which carries its spring taste.
  • Oolong Half-Way is half roasted Oolong tea. Compared to our Oolong Spring Green, Oolong Half-Way has an earthier and more robust taste with hints of a roast nutty character. The reddish brown brewed tea indicates a deeper flavour that has more body. It’s a championship tea on many levels.
  • Oolong Old Master is a full roast over charcoal which contributes to its mature aroma with nutty, honey and caramel taste with lingering flavour. The body is incredibly smooth and gentle. It is suitable for someone who has a sensitive stomach.

There are approximately 1,500 types of tea in the world, however at ZiYo we only stock a basic tea selection that barely scratches the surface of the tea world.

Unfortunately there are many poor quality teas on the market, none of which are worth drinking. A poor quality tea may give you warmth, caffeine and flavour from anything you add to it (sugar and milk, for example).

The flavour of a good quality teas is very noticeable and is believed to have many health benefits. Our premium high mountain tea in particular is renowned for its cleansing, and detoxification properties. It effectively helps prevent diabetes and cancers. It is believed that it helps slow down the ageing process. Moreover, aged teas are twice as effective than any ordinary teas.

In addition to all the benefits mentioned above, a genuine premium high mountain Oolong tea has a clean flavour that will not add any burden to your body. So if you are feeling stressed from work or if you just feel a little guilty from having a greasy, high calorie meal a cup of premium Oolong tea can help alleviate the stress put on your body and your digestive system.

Brewing Suggestions :

Always brew tea to your own taste, adjust the amount of tea used until you find the right flavour/strength balance that is to your own taste. The size of the teapot, water quality, and water temperature all have an affect on the brewing results. Below are some guidelines you can use to get started

  • 3g of tea for a small teapot (150ml). A little goes a long way, usually you can refill your tea pot with hot water up to 5 times
  • Brewing in a mug, use less than 5g of tea, usually you can do up to 3 pourings with same leaves.
